  • Christened: 5 Jan 1909, St Joseph's Hospital and Foundling Asylum, Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio
  • Marriage (1): Mary Ann Noble on 25 May 1946 in St. Rose Church Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 1
  • Died: 27 Jan 1998, Santa Rosa, Sonoma, California at age 89
  • Buried: 1998, Holy Cross Cemetary Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Noted events in his life were:

Surname: Kennedy - Murphy - Healy. Dad was born Thomas Kennedy and I believe I have found him as an infant in the 1910 Census.

The next record I have is from when he entered Milwaukee Riverside HS (Now Milwaukee East) in 1923 as Thomas J. Murphy. All of his HS records are in the Murphy name.

He applied for work at the First Wisconsin National Bank in 1927 as Thomas J. Healy and all subsequent records are in the Healy name.

I have searched Milwaukee's records of Name changes and adoptions and have found no record for any of the name changes.

I have also searched the 1920 Census in Ohio and Wisconsin for a Thomas Kennedy or Thomas Murphy age 11 and have found no record.

Birth Certificate. Birth certificate for Thomas Kennedy is from County of Hamilton, City of Cincinnati, State of Ohio Registration District No. 235 File No. 42159, Primary Registration District No. 5029 and Registered No. 2993.

This certificate shows that Thomas was born to Josephine Kennedy at St. Joseph's Mat(ernity) Hosp'l, Norwood, Ohio. Josephine was 28 on her last birthday.

Her birthplace was shown as "Cinti. O." but in different handwriting. Her occupation may have been originally left blank but later noted as Housework or Housework was later scratched out. The sex of the child was originally recorded as F but written over to M. The box asking whether it was legitimate is marked no.

Only one piece of information is shown for the father - - that his color or race was white. All other entries for the father are shown as unknown.

The attending physician's name is difficult to read but appears to be Carrell De C????y of 827 W. 8th St.

The certificate was filed June 25, 1909.

Baptism certificate. 2 The Baptism of Thomas Kennedy, child of Josephine Kennedy who was born on the 4th day of January 1909 was done on the 5th day of January 1909 by Rev. W. J. Kelly the sponsor being Ms. Moeller.

Birth record discovery. I spoke to Sister Mary Ann at the Hospital and she was concerned about sharing hospital records. She did share that St. Joseph's was originally established in 1873 as a hospital for unwed mothers. Over the years (it ceased maternity operations in the 1950's), it also served married women, too, but in its early years, it principally served unwed mothers.

Sister Mary Ann said she has a book with a birth listing for Janaury 4, 1909 to a woman named Kennedy but not Ellen Kennedy and she couldn't give me the name. She asked if I knew any other names. I knew of Ellen Kennedy's sisters and asked whether Elizabeth or Rosa was the name and Sister said no. Marge recalled reading about a Josephine and seeing a picture of her. I called Sister back and asked if Josephine was the name and she said "ah ha". I said "so the name was Josephine" and she said "I can't give you the name but I think you understand." No father's name was listed. TBH 1-04

Education: Grade School and High School: Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mary Ann Healy believes that Thomas attended Holy Rosary Parish Grade School. He attended High School (Riverside or East High School) in Milwaukee under the name Thomas Murphy. He apparently changed his name to Healy right after that (1927?) but before going to work for the First Wisconsin Bank. My father told me that he attended Riverside HS, later known as East and that he was on the Track and Cross Country teams. He may also have been active in plays.

His High School records only show the name Thomas Murphy and listed his mother as Josephine Murphy. At some point, he began identifying himself as Thomas Healy and is listed that way as he lives with James F. and Ellen Kennedy Healy and Margaret Healy in Milwaukee in the 1930 census. He applied for his job at the First Wisconsin National Bank in 1927 as Thomas Healy.

James F. Healy. The man who was the head of the household in 1930 was a James F. Healy. He was the husband of Ellen and the father of Agnes Healy Slater Burke and Margaret Healy.

James F. was slain in a homocide in November, 1932 in Milwaukee. He was a night watchman and attendant for Deep Rock Oil Comp. An attempted robbery turned into a murder when he resisted.

His death certificate shows that he was born on August 6, 1863 in Cincinnati and his parents as John Healy, born in Ohio and Margaret Sullivan, born in Ireland. Town records in Leadville, CO show that he and his young family lived there from 1891 - 93, perhaps longer. His two daughters were baptised in Annunciation Church.

1910 Census, 1910, Cincinnati, Ohio. 3 Thomas Kennedy is living in the St. Joseph Hospital and Foundling Asylum. There are about 150 children listed in this census at this address under the age of 12.

Census, 1930, Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The first census that he shows up in is 1930. Thomas J. Healy is living with James F. and Ellen Kennedy Healy and Margaret Healy at 346 Newport Ave. in Milwaukee. He would have been 21 and already working at the First Wisconsin National Bank.

Y-DNA information. Several Y-DNA matches have been identified through Family Tree DNA and by the work of Donn Devine at the Devine Surname DNA Study

Donn's research shows that my DNA results at 37 markers "is closely enough related to DEV 2 that a Devine ancestor of the two sample donors was probably no further back than six generations, based on the Family Tree DNA Time Predictor, and could well be closer." DEV 2 is a descendant of Patrick Devine, a farmer, living at Drumkeary East, Ballinakill Parish, Loughrea, County Galway, in 1844.

Other DNA results are that my DNA closely matches the following results that have been posted at Family Tree DNA:

- At 67 markers
-John Jordan Dever - Genetic distance 3 email
-James Byron Stringfellow - Genetic distance 6 -
- Martin J. Devine - Distance 6 -
- Donn Devine - Distance 6 -

Residence, 1940, Shorewood, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 4 Thomas (age 31) is living at 2015 Lake Bluff Blvd in 1940 with Margaret (47 and a supervising nurse at County Emergency Hospital) and Ellen (73) Healy and also with Thomas (15), Zona (14) and Mary Ann (12) Burke. I believe Thomas, Zona and Mary Ann were the children of Agnes Healy Burke.

The record shows that the family owns the home.

Thomas's place of birth is shown as Wisconsin and he is shown as Margaret's brother. Other research shows that neither of these statements is true.

WW II, 1942-1945. Dad served in WW II in the Army. His Honorable Discharge shows the following:
